The basic purpose of the Workers’ Compensation is to provide wage replacement benefits and medical treatment for employees who have been injured or become ill due to a work-related injury or illness. Idaho State Insurance Fund

The State Insurance Fund was created by the Idaho Legislature in 1917 as a part of the Workers' Compensation Act. The Legislature created the State Insurance Fund for the purpose of providing a reliable source of workers compensation insurance for Idaho employers and to provide security for the payment of benefits to covered workers. The State Insurance Fund is not tax-supported and the State of Idaho is not liable for any indebtedness incurred by the Fund.

The following activities will not be considered unfair trade practices: 1) fee/penalty waiver related to insured’s temporary inability to pay premium or otherwise respond to insurer’s inquiries; 2) premium payment grace period; 3) additional time before nonrenewal/cancellation effective; 4) proof of loss deadline extension; 5) for auditable policies, allowing self-audit and self-reporting in lieu of physical audit; 6) electronic payment.  Insurers may present proposals to adjust for changes in risk exposure (e.g., temporary premium reductions; premium refund).
